Changes in Fees Established by the Legislature for the Department of Public Safety, Division of Fire Safety - Effective July 1, 2010

Permit Fees:

•Construction permit fee under the Fire & Building Safety Code - $5.50 per each $1,000 of the total valuation of the construction work proposed to be done (for both new construction and rehabilitation work)… Minimum construction permit fee - $50.

•Electrical permit base fee - $40 (except for electrical work done in one and two family residential dwellings).

•Electrical permit fee for each panel and feeder after the main disconnect - $35 (the fees for the electrical service remain the same and are based on the size of the service).

•Plumbing permit fee for fixtures described as a water heater, hydronic heating unit, domestic hot water coil or water treatment device, for plumbing work identified as a priority for inspection - $15, all other plumbing fixtures - $10, minimum permit fee - $50.

•Plumbing permit fee for all plumbing work not identified as a priority - $50.

Inspection Fees:

•Fee for required or requested fire inspection due to a change of use or ownership - $125.

•Fee for each re-inspection for electrical code violations - $125.

Proof of Inspection Stickers:

•Proof of inspection fee for the periodic inspection of fire alarm systems, fixed fire extinguishing systems, emergency generators, water-based fire protection systems, and for the issuance of a boiler operating certificate - $30

License & Certification:

•Boiler commission to inspect boilers and pressure vessels (3-year) - $150.

•Chimney certificate for cleaning, maintenance and evaluation of chimneys and solid fuel burning appliances (3-year) - $30.

•Electrician license (3-year)… master - $150, journeyman and type-S journeyman license - $115

•Fire alarm system certificate for inspection and test of fire alarm systems (3-year) - $90.

•Fixed fire extinguishing system certificate of fitness for the design, installation, inspection, servicing and recharging of fixed fire extinguishing systems (3-year) - $60 (initial), $20 (renewal)

•Gas certificate for the installation, inspection and service of natural fuel gas and LP gas appliances (3-year) - $60

•Generator certificate of fitness for the Inspection and test of emergency generators (3-year) - $30

•Oil certificate of fitness for the installation, inspection and service of oil burning equipment (3-year) $60

•Plumbing license (2-year)… master - $120, journeyman - $90, specialist - $50

•Water based fire protection systems certificate for design (3-year) - $150 (initial), -$50 (renewal)

•Water based fire protection systems certificate for the installation, maintenance, repair and testing (3-year) - $115 (initial), - $50 (renewal)

•Water based fire protection systems certificate (limited) for limited domestic fire sprinkler systems (3-year) - $60 (initial) - $20 (renewal)
